Before Toledo hip-hop had a national spotlight, Sweetenlo was building a recorded legacy from the city outward. “The Original Tramp” stands as one of the defining titles from that early period—and it is now being prepared for its first release on iTunes.
The song is closely connected to Sweetenlo’s breakthrough era. Discogs documents I Don’t Play & The Original Tramp on Micha Records in 1990, while “The Original Tramp” also appears in the track list for the WRAP/Ichiban album Not to Be Tooken Lightly.
That album helped move Toledo rap onto a larger stage. Local historical reporting identifies Sweetenlo as Toledo’s first rapper and the city’s first rap artist with a major record deal. “The Original Tramp” carries the energy, personality and independence of that moment.
