Sweetenlo’s “The Original Tramp” Is Coming to iTunes for the First Time
TOLEDO, Ohio — “The Original Tramp,” a signature recording from pioneering Toledo rapper Sweetenlo, is coming to iTunes for the first time. The digital release will introduce the record to a new generation while making an important piece of Toledo hip-hop history easier for longtime listeners, music supervisors, researchers and collectors to discover.
Sweetenlo—also known as Sweetnlo—helped establish Toledo’s recorded rap history. The Toledo Lucas County Public Library identifies him as Toledo’s first rapper, while Toledo City Paper documents his landmark role as the city’s first rap artist to secure a major record deal. His catalog includes the 1990 WRAP/Ichiban album Not to Be Tooken Lightly and the 1994 album Compton Killa.
“The Original Tramp” is one of the foundational recordings in that story. Its arrival on iTunes expands access to Sweetenlo’s music and supports the continuing work of preserving, documenting and licensing his catalog.
